Shaker Step Stool- Unplugged

"The finish is General Finishes Vintage Cherry Dye stain and that tamed the sap wood that was throughout the cherry I had on hand to build this. I added a top coat of General Finishes Arm-R-Coat. Overall dimensions are 20"wide, 14" deep,…"

Finished View

Front. Though hard to see, I was able to sand out and refinish the seat to match and removed the burn mark. I used a mix of General Finishes Salam Maple and Minwax Golden Oak to best match the existing color.

"Thanks Fred. I took a few measurements of the legs and stretcher but no patterns as I didn't think of that being new to all of this :) I still have the chair in the shop, she is picking it up Monday."

"Ralph, thanks for the tip, I never thought of looking at ebay, will do it soon. Looks like you have a nice set up and I like the 4x4 posts. Also, one of the suppliers I dealt with when working is looking in his maint dept as well. Slow but steady…"

Quilt Display Chest

This display chest was commissioned by a friend of my wife who wanted something to protect and display her keepsake quilts. She chose red oak and I finished it in General Finishes Shaker Maple and three coats of the GF Enduro waterbed urethane. If you haven't tried this finish yet, I can highly recommend this top coat. I had to brush it on since I don't yet have a spray unit, but it came out great. The unit measures 29"x19"x21" high.  Straight forward frame and panel (and glass)…

Recent Chair Repair - April 11

A former co-worker contacted me to make two table leaves for their dining room set. When I went to go look at the table, I saw one chair of the set in his fire wood pile. He said he tried to glue it but gave up after it continued to break. Typical of chairs of this type, the joints were simply glued and screwed. I had to cut off the broken ends of the bow in order to taper those ends so they would go…

Hey Rick, just read your message to Fred about getting some schedule 80 PVC Pipe. I was checking out e-Bay a while back and was amased at how much of it you can find on there for next to nothing. Not near what I had to pay for mine several years ago when I build it. One other thing you might want to do, instead of building a cross buck type stand for it, use 4 X 4's mounted in the ground and mount it that way. I'll have to try and figure out how to send a photo of how I have mine set up. Sure saves time not having to check it for levelness every time I need to use it.  Hi Rick, yeah we have started snadbagging since last weekend. Just what we need, more water here. Even the ducks are tired of it.

We just returned from doing the Williamsburg, VA. show and I was not sure I was going to make it back because my health went to hell so to speak. When we did return home last Sunday, I was having a lot of trouble getting enough oxygen.

I ended up going to the hospital Monday night and was transported down to De Paul Hospital in Bridgeton, MO. I've been poked and proded so much this past week that it isn't funny. Hopefully I may be getting to go home tomorrow. n

With my luck, I'll get run over by some "Lead-Foot" once I walk out to get in the Van. Ha! Ha!

Later, Ralph
